I believe that our new nature or man Paul refers too is our spirit. Our old nature or man is our flesh. So even though our flesh continues to rebel from God, our spirit wants to please, worship and praise God. So that is why we are at war with our flesh. Our Spirit wants to do the things of God but the flesh wants to continue on in it's sinful nature. I believe that it was a better understanding of Romans for me that really helped me deal with my sinful nature. I am as Paul puts it, "a wicked man", But my spirit leads me to the things of God and repentance. Glory be to God and the grace He's bestowed upon my undeserving self.
