Those of us who believe in the sovereignty of God are often said to “limit” the atonement of Christ. In fact many preachers of our persuasion freely use the term “ Limited Atonement”. As with any Bible doctrine, this teaching must be able to stand the close examination of Bible students who are honestly seeking God’s will. It must be able to stand, or else be junked!

Mr. Woodruff, who is a member of our Board has written this article on the Atonement with the hopes of perhaps introducing the biblical teaching of Christ's atoning sacrifice to some for the first time and to bring further light to those who embrace it. First, Mr. Woodruff discusses the four major headings of biblical atonement:

1) Sacrifice
2) Reconciliation
3) Redemption
4) Sacrifice

He then shows how Christ's atonement is directly connected to and inseparable from the sovereignty of God. The next step is to delve into the aspect of "sufficiency"; a very much debated subject in itself.

Whether this is your initial exposure to the biblical teaching concerning the atonement or whether you are a seasoned veteran of this doctrine, I am sure reading this article will be of benefit to you.
