As we start off the new year, I thought it would be interesting to explore a topic that isn't considered as thoroughly as it ought to be; a true understanding of man's miserable estate. Last month, in the TULIP article by John Gerstner, the topic of the total depravity of man was covered in Gerstner's examination of the five points of Calvinism. In this article, Christopher Love delves into the miserable nature of man and what that means.

1 I will show you the eight particular properties of a man without Christ.
2 Every man without Jesus Christ is a base man.
3 He is a bondman.
4 He is a beggarly man.
5 He is a blind man.
6 He is a deformed man.
7 He is a disconsolate man.
8 He is a dead man; and
9 He is a damned man.

In His Grace

The Chestnut Mare
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
