I think I understand your consternation.

If indeed they were making immersion a requirement for salvation, then that is indeed troubling.
Yet, personally speaking as all Baptists do; I believe in immersion. Yet, not as a requirement for salvation.

If they were consistent; they would say a Paedo-Baptist like RC Sproul was not a real Christian because he was not baptized by immersion.

I am curious, would they go that far?

If they say yes; even as a Baptist myself, I would not go there.
