Many thanks to those who have contributed to this discussion and to God; I often have little assurance. I am still working through this, but this topic has helped put some things into perspective. There seems to be a lot that makes sense with Ridderbos' view, but verses 24 and 25, particularly 25, serve to connect chapters 7 and 8 that otherwise could be explained as separate states of the soul. I can think of other explanations of all the other verses that conflict with the exegesis of Ridderbos, but not 7:24,25. Again, thanks so much.
