Schiavo will doubtless refuse it, and then use the fact he refused a million bucks as proof he has no mercenary goal, instead being motivated solely by love for his "Why-on-earth-won't-she-DIE?" wife.
I haven't had much time to think about it much this morning, but reading the news that Congress was up at night in special session and the President signed the bill at 1 a.m. to keep Terri Schiavo alive was a bit too much. I'm all for this woman's right to live (which no body really knows what her wishes were), but this seems just a big too ridiculous for some reason. These are just my groggy morning thoughts.

This is one of those typical cases where one person's situation is going to determine a law that will effect the entire nation. I generally oppose such things as they are typically trivial matters, e.g., a drunk slams his car into a tree so the grieving mother, wife, girlfriend, etc., hounds the local legislatures, passes around a petition, gets on the news, etc., until a law is passed that requires all trees be a minimum 100 feet from any road. Well, you know.... if that lousy tree wouldn't have been there, even though it had been for several hundred years, this man would be alive today. His death had nothing to do with his over-indulgent drunken behaviour, right?
However, in this case, the Judges decision to ORDER that the feeding tube be removed goes beyond the interpretation of the law and sets a precedence which would open the door to legalizing the murder of countless individuals. They have already succeeded in legalizing the murder of the unborn. The next logical step, which so many have predicted and anticipated is the murder of the infirm, elderly, cast-aways, etc.......! I think it is good that Congress and the President have acted with the intent and hope of nipping this in the bud at this time. I have no doubt that within the next generation, such murderous acts will be permitted by law.
She's brain dead......according to several doctors. Her husband, who has federal headship over her, has made the decision. I'm surprised to see good reformed christians so willing to sell out their federal headship to the government. Oh well, reap the consequences and cry later.
I'm opposed to euthanasia and wouldn't want to see the courts decide who should live and who should die unless it's for some horrible crime. I know there are some countries (like the Netherlands) that do allow doctors to determine who should receive treatment and who should be exterminated. So I appreciate efforts to fight against policies that would legalize this practice in the United States. However, does Terri Schiavo and those who love her really want to prolong her vegetative life?
My wife and I have discussed this case and we wouldn't want to have respirators or feeding tubes preventing a normal death to occur if it were one of us. Who (if they could make the decision) would want to be kept alive in that condition with no hope for recovery?
Terri Schiavo suffered brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped briefly because of a chemical imbalance. She can breathe on her own, but has relied on the feeding tube to keep her alive.
Court-appointed doctors say she is in a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery. Her husband says she would not want to be kept alive in that condition, but her parents insist she could recover with treatment. So the issue now is not living on her own but being kept alive by others.
Can anyone tell me whether there has been improvement in her condition since she suffered the brain damage? Is there really hope for recovery with treatment?

Precisely. In the state of Florida, there are legalities involved.......and every single one has been met. This isn't a new case. The lady has been in a persistent vegetative state for several years. Her husband, the federal headship, both biblically and legally, along with doctors and judges, have made the decision to allow her to die a normal death that occurs due to this state. The decision has been reviewed, reviewed some more by more courts, reviewed by even the Supreme Court, and yet, some of us are determined to undermine the rights of the family.

None, according to several doctors. While every case is unique, every passing year brings about an approximate 50% less chance of any recovery, much less one to any normal life. We could keep practically any person alive indefinitely through the use of machinery.

Perhaps we differ on the definition of "Federal Headship" and what authority the head of a covenant family has? One might conclude from what you seem to be saying, re: Federal Headship, that if a husband demanded that his wife abort her unborn infant, she should comply and it would be pleasing to God? If not, why is it in this case that this man has the authority to take the life of his wife. Murder is murder is murder, no matter how one tries to dress it up.
If Terri has never stated her wishes should such an unfortunate situation should befall her, then I believe that one must assume that she desires life. Oh.... btw, for anyone to say that the woman is brain dead is in fact brain dead themselves. Brain dead people don't look around, breathe on their own, move, etc. Unless of course, the videos that have been broadcast on international news are totally fabricated and she is in fact brain dead. The ONLY thing she is in need of is a feeding tube, something which many people are using. Why is this woman being singled out for death? (Hint) look no further than her godless, unfaithful husband's greed who is being encouraged by a bunch of godless, greedy lawyers.
Are you calling me brain dead? I thought you would rise above ad hominem. Simply answer the question. Also, state your legal expertise and medical qualifications.

far from the same. Pathetic analogy. Terry Schiavo did tell her husband, and I couldn't care less if you're convinced otherwise. Several courts and doctors agree with me. Allowing people to die isn't murder. Good try but again, several doctors and lawyers and judges disagree with your view. In fact, the case has gone all the way to the Supreme Court and guess what, Pilgrim loses again.

Except you are assuming, yet again. this is something you seem to do a lot of lately, to the detriment of your good name. Her husband has testified that she did indeed inform him and unless you know otherwise you are simply putting forth conjecture, something else you've been delving in lately. however, character assassination seems to be the way we are headed.

Of course. Anybody who has actually spoken to their family doctor and family lawyer is brain dead. How sick. How non-sequitor.

Yup, they do. You need to go ask a professional instead of relying upon your emotional appeals because you obviously are quite ignorant to medicine. Now I am going to ask you, and if you dare actually interact we'll see how well your argument holds up. Why can't Terry speak for herself?

Again, showing how little you actually know. She requires total care. Why isn't she up running around wiping her own ?

the idea that one MUST divorce an unfaithful spouse is sheer ignorance. However, I do recognize the call for split families.......it comes from the left. I suppose Abraham was Godless? Oh wait.......that's different. you have no clue. Have you met the man? Godless lawyers, including every single judge that has ever heard this case. Um........right.
Now, could you please list your legal and medical qualifications as well as the professionals you consulted? Oh yeah, and the question about calling me brain dead?
I am NOT amazed at the passion of all concerning this issue. You know, with TV and all! I am amazed at the depth of deception clearly exhibited by the media over this issue. Why don't WE ALL argue about an issue that is probably sinful to even argue in the first place because the answer is so clear?
The woman IS alive and she does not have a living will. It should be the concern of all, ONLY that she does not die, with hope for her possible recovery no matter how small.
We should just look at what the Lord has done for us - a useless race that deserves nothing better than death, but there is a God who says:
"For I the Lord, do not change; Therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed." Mal. 3:6
I am disgusted with the hypocrite Democrats and many Republicans who weep many tears over concern with one woman who they can see on TV, and yet approve or say nothing concerning the 1.5 million (MILLION!) abortions committed each year in this country. OH, what a wonderful liberal media we have! And Oh, what a judgement it will one day be.
It's disgusting enough to make me shut my mouth in rebellion to the stink of this world forever.

Wow, William, I am absolutely stunned at the sheer ignorance that has misguided your opinion about this situation. Two key examples:
Quote
the lady has been in a persistent vegetative state for several years.
(Fred) No, she has not. She is not on any kind of life support that is beating her heart, or blowing air into her lungs, or anything of that sort. All of her internal organs are operating normally. Hence, there are no "heroic measures" being taken that are keeping her alive. All that is necessary is for her to eat through a tub because she lacks the capacity to swallow. As Pilgrim pointed out, the gal looks around, responds to her parents and other stimuli and is aware of her surroundings. Moreover, she has not been subjected to those important tests that would determine the true nature of her state to begin with. That is the reason why her parents are fighting for her life. They want to have her evaluated by outside resources.
Her "federalhead husband" did nothing to care for her after she succumbed to this condition and many, many doctors believe she would not be in the worse condition that she is in now if he had taking measures to care for her and get his wife the necessary treatment needful for rehabilitation. Of course, such treatment costs money and time and eats up the normal life of a young husband who is wearied with taking care of an invalid wife.
Quote
Her husband has testified that she did indeed inform him and unless you know otherwise you are simply putting forth conjecture, something else you've been delving in lately. however, character assassination seems to be the way we are headed.
(Fred) Here husband testified to this 3 YEARS after her heart attack that left her in her current condition. If it were her expressed desire to be left to starve and die of thirst, why did he not reveal this immediately after her condition was known?
Finally, I do not think you are considering the horrific nature the conclusion of your opinion will lead. At what point do we determine a person's worth to live if the individual is "braindead" according to your definition? I know autistic children that are in an equivilant state as her's. Why not have the father's play a federalhead role and have them put down? You genuinely want secular courts to determine the worth of our mentally retarded individuals? Rather than squelching the rights of a husband (who only maintains that legality so as to be the "legal guardian" of the woman) what you suggest will lead us down the path to one of those ghoulish SciFi worlds that only values a person's life who can benefit the society. Any "leeches" must be purged.
Let us not foget our Lord's words:
And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? Exodus 4:11
Speaking of sheer ignorance, aren't you a schismatic?

Outside what? yup, people in a vegetative state respond to stimuli. It doesn't mean they have the capacity to live on their own. I'll as you, why hasn't Terry spoken for herself?

Irrelevant. Good try. Now go read your Bible and become a good christian.
