But first give me leave to make some general points, out of which come abundant comfort and overflowing rivers of refreshing for all times of temptations and trouble of mind.
“Problems and Promises” is what could be rightly called a balm for the soul. Robert Bolton was a true Puritan in every sense of the word. His concern was first and foremost Jesus Christ exalted, and then calling sinners to Christ and finally that all should live lives of holiness before the Lord. But contrary to some popular notions concerning the Puritans, they were real people just like you and me. They had struggles, besetting sins, temptations and trials in their own lives. Idealists they were not. And thus, knowing himself the hardships of living out one's faith Bolton wrote this gem with the goal of providing hope, comfort and strength to those of like-minded faith. I am sure, if you are seeking to live your life for the glory of God and striving toward that goal, being sanctified by the Spirit, this article will edify you and even perhaps bring some joy to you.
