Arminianism Prevalent in Protestantism

Widespread among so-called evangelicals or fundamentalists is the view that the atonement is universal in its divine design but limited in its actual accomplishment. God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, as well as the Holy Spirit, are said to have purposed the salvation of all men by the Saviour’s death, and yet not all are saved in the end. For this discrepancy between the design and the accomplishment of the atonement men are accountable, for, although by virtue of the common or sufficient grace of God all are said to have the ability to believe, many refuse to receive the benefits of the atonement in faith.
Yes, another article dealing with the subject of the design and extent of the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. Honestly, can there be too many articles or books written on this subject when it is the heart of the Gospel? Get this wrong and you may not possess what the atonement was designed to accomplish; salvation.

I should note that Kuiper's introductory remarks suffer from dated information. For, the embracing of a universal atonement to one degree or another is also present and taught in many "Reformed" churches. Doubtless, the view of a universal atonement is the predominate view held by the majority of professing Christians across denominational lines.

Therefore it is essential that the biblical teaching on this subject be known, embraced, taught and loved dearly, which anyone with a 'new heart' will surely do as evidence of the Spirit's work and indwelling power and influence. Kuiper does a fine job of presenting the subject and defending the truth of God's perfect design and application of His eternal intent to save a people for Himself.

You can read it here: Arminian Universalism.

For the further teaching of this subject, you can also read R.B. Kuiper's Scriptural Particularism which continues from this Month's article.

In His service and grace,
