"Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witness every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican" Matthew 18:15-17 What is required of the Christian in forgiveness? We often hear reports of how some people are lauded for forgiving those who have caused some great offense, when those people never showed signs of remorse and without repentance. Case in point, the relatives of victims who made a statement of forgiveness at the hearing of the man who murdered 9 people in a Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina. This man felt justified in his taking of these lives. Is this true forgiveness? John Murray's article on the biblical nature of forgiveness ought to help us understand what is required for true forgiveness. You can read this newly posted article HERE and perhaps you will wish to discuss this subject on the forum.
