John Owen is the author of this month's Article of the Month, who is noted for his unrivaled biblical knowledge of the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. His writings are also known to be less than easy to read. Yet, those who persevere when reading Owen reap great benefits for both mind and soul. This article is yet another that focuses upon the absolute necessity of the imputation of Christ's perfect righteousness, aka: active obedience in order for a sinner to be saved. As I have occasionally made mention, the main focus most often heard is upon the death of Christ on the cross, aka: passive obedience, whereby Christ suffered the penalty due to His people; those whom the Father gave Him to atone for. But as Owen rightly argues, against those who would say otherwise, the perfect righteousness of Christ is no less necessary than the penal substitution death of which He endured. As some of you well know, there is a deliberate attack upon this fundamental doctrine by various individuals and groups, e.g., James Dunn, N.T. Wright & co., New Perspective on Paul, Federal Vision, et al. Therefore, it is most important that ALL true believers become intimately familiar with this damnable heresy in order to guard oneself from being taken in by the deceit and wiles of the evil one and those who do his work. You can read the article now by clicking here: The Imputation of the Obedience of Christ. In His service and grace,
simul iustus et peccator
