A Work Colleagues’ New Book
I have a work colleague that has recently had his Christian testimony published in book form. On the off chance that management might allow him to put up a poster he asked management. They were sympathetic, but turned him down because of the word “God” was in the poster. He asked if he took the word “God” out of the poster, if it would make a difference. They said no, mainly because they knew it was a religious book.
I told him that if it was my book I was advertizing I couldn’t in good conscience take the word “God” off the poster, mainly because God is the only reason that I am a Christian and therefore the book is more about the transforming work of the Gospel.
He looked at me like I was really strange and told me that he could care less if the poster had the word “God” in it if it got people to read the book, where the Gospel is clearly presented.
Thoughts?

I actually would prefer to have name Jesus posted, as God is a generic term to many people!

That wasn't really my point.

The title of the book should best represent its contents. The word "God" is not therefore necessary in the title itself, but I'm more than confident that "God" appears in the book's contents. What bother's me more is what you related about this person's attitude and priorities; selling the book. Personally, I have a difficult time why someone would write a book about their alleged "Christian Testimony" as if his conversion and subsequent life is to be seen as paradigmatic. The lives of believers recorded in Scripture are rarely what people would choose for themselves. wink

Your friend was more interested in getting people toreadabout how God changed his own life, correct?

Actually, he says that in order for him to break even, he needs to sell a certain number of copies. However, that is not why he wrote the book. He said he wrote the book because he believes most of what Christians proclaim today, is not true Christianity, because it lacks a life of repentance. He wants to get the book into as many people's hands as possible.
The book's title is 'A Dangerous Road Home'. He chose that title because he believed that it reflects his testimony. Even after he supposedly became a Christian he lived for himself for 9 years and he was couldn't understand why his life was so miserable.
