I have a question about the history of Covenantalism.
I was talking to a Dispensationalists and after telling him that Dispensationalism was not around before Darby around 1830.
He responded basically. "So what? Covenantalism was not around before the 1600s."
My understanding is that he is wrong on this( though the name Covenantalism may not have been around before the 1600s; it was around way before this.
Anybody know the history?

Just thought I would add that he just responded to me that anyone who actually believes that Dispensationalism was not around before Darby in the early 1800s is mistaken. He gave the following like as proof:

Excellent summary, and the author wrote and presented each side in a Christ like fashion!

Curious, those who hold to a plan still for literal uisrael in reformed, how is that usually laid out?.

As in all Jews living at time of second Coming will be saved?

1. Lots of articles in the "Eschatology" section of Calvinism and the Reformed Faith

2. Lee Irons deals with this specific question in his article Paul's Theology of Israel's Future

Interesting reading, as I always held to Israel being saved meant that God would deal with natiuonal israel at Second Coming, but do also see that could refer to the faithful remnant of Jews God saves out until that Event also?
