Why I believe in Presuppositional Apologetics As a student of Presuppositional Apologetics, I feel I have hardly scratched the surface of all the issues, but already I have understood enough to be convinced that it is thoroughly biblical. That is not to say that I am not tempted to fall back on evidentialism to try to give a reason for the hope (confidence) that is in me. (1 Peter 3:15) Thinking of ways to describe why I believe it is thoroughly biblical, I could write pages and pages on this, but it is not my intention to do so. Rather my intention is to be as brief as possible. With that in mind I can think of no better portion of Scripture that shows Presuppositional Apologetics than Romans 1:20-21. Of course I am not using this portion of Scripture to show the full scope of the Presuppositional method. Rather, I am using it as a starting point of why this method is so important. “ For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” Romans 1:20-21 KJV William Hendriksen says the following. “… The reference is rather to the works of creation: the works of God which for a very long time, in fact ever since the creation of the universe, have been visible to men and have made their indelible impression on their minds.” These verses show that everyone whether they claim to be atheists or not know there is a God. Therefore their wicked deeds are inexcusable. If we as Christians take this seriously, we must come to the conclusion that by using the unbelievers methods, we are in essence not using the method God shows us directly in this and other passages. Therefore, it is not built on faith, but the autonomy of man. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 NKJV One thing I am finding out is this method is extremely humbling. It is comforting to realize that we can depend on God through the whole process. Yet, at the same time it comes with a huge responsibility. I must be diligent in renewing my mind, if I want my faith to grow in Him. (Rom. 12:2; Phil 4:8-9; Heb. 3:1) Tom

Would this not be either/or, but both types of Apolgetics would be in play?

JesusFan Not sure what you meant by that, however the whole thing was on the subject of Presuppositional Apologetics. I would encourage you to read Always Ready by Greg Bahnsen

Thought the following quote by Greg Bahnsen was too good not to share. Comments are welcome.
"The task of apologetics is to strip the unbeliever of his mask, to show him that he has really known God (in condemnation) all along but suppress the truth unrighteously, and that knowledge would be impossible otherwise. Apologetics in this way goes to the heart of the matter. It challenges the heart of the philosophical outlook, and it confront the self-deception which grips the believer's personal heart." The truth is that no sinners really does not believe there is no God, but they do desire to create him in their own image!

The truth is that no sinners really does not believe there is no God, but they do desire to create him in their own image! Absolutely, but that begs the question, is what evidential apologetics seeks to do, putting God on trial?( Deut. 6:16; Matt. 4:7) Tom

I think that the Lord Himself left to ushistorical and self evident truths/facts to be used!
