I am l looking for a good book on the subject of sanctification to recommend to others and thought this would be a good place to ask.
I have found that in the past when I recommend either books or articles. Usually shorter books/articles have the most chance to be read. Books that are easy to read without a lot of big hard words. For example I have read a few John Owen books and loved them, but when I lend them out, most people don't get past the first chapter, because it went right over their head.
Any recommendations?

In no particular order:

The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification by Walter Marshall

The Doctrine of Sanctification by Arthur W. Pink

Pleasing God by R.C. Sproul, Sr.

Devoted to God: Blueprints for Sanctification by Sinclair Ferguson

Holiness by J.C. Ryle (classic) [review: http://www.ligonier.org/blog/christian-classic-sanctification/]

Thankyou, I am even familiar with a few of them and think I have 'Pleaing God' on my bookshelf.

I was at the Church tonight watching the Martin Luther movie. After the movie, I was out in the foyer and noticed in the book case 'Holiness' by J.C. Ryle. I picked it up and my pastor and I started talking about it. He told me it was a really good book that is a little heavy, but well worth the read. Sounds like I need to read it and decide if it meets the description I mentioned earlier.

It is true that handing one of John Owen's books to someone who is "slow" might be a less than a good choice, with the exception of his The Glory of Christ which is quite easy to read. However, I would remind you that there is a person named, The Holy Spirit, Who is not bound by a person's intellectual level, for God created each person according to His good pleasure, nor any lack of interest, for it is the Spirit Who draws sinners who are by nature disinterested in the things of God. I was a God hater and openly hostile, even to the point of violence toward those who attempted to mention the very name of God except in a blasphemous way. Of course, I can look back and see that God also preserved me from the potential influences of hearing a false gospel and being deceived about salvation in Christ. dizzy But when it was God's design and decree to save this wretch of a man, nothing could prevent me from reading the Bible, for an insatiable appetite for God and His Word were created in me by the Spirit. joy

I agree with your accessment concerning the Holy Spirit.
What I discribed however is coming from years experience of giving books/articles to Christians.
There are exceptions to this of course. Yet, I now try to give shorter easier books out. It doesn't gaurantee they will read it, but there is more of a chance.
