Last Sunday in both of our services (morning and eve) I notice one person holding his smart phone up taking pics of the service. I know that it may look cool on FB later but isn't that highly distracting and totally unnecessary. Are we there to worship God or have a Kodak moment? And this guy is in his 60s so don't blame it on the millennials.

Bah humbug!

You are right though, however did he happen to be a visitor that perhaps only comes to Church a few times a year?

No, he is a regular member. He is on social media all the time.

Perhaps you should have a private chat with him. Matt. 18:15

1. I have no clue what type of worship service your church practices, especially since it is PCA. shrug So, it may be acceptable to the Elders and consistent with your local church's ecclesiology.

2. Biblically, however, such behavior is unacceptable and could reveal more about this person than you perhaps would like to know.

3. The answer to your question, if in fact you were really wanting to solicit answers, is a) You are there to worship God... Who has made clear in His written Word how He is to be worshipped, even including the attitude which all the earth is to approach Him in that worship:

Quote
Hebrews 12:28-29 (ASV) "Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service (latreuo worship) well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe: for our God is a consuming fire."
This would even on its face prohibit such acts, e.g., taking photos DURING the actual worship service. IF he was trying to get photos of the congregation, maybe the choir, a guest preacher, the decorations in the sanctuary, or whatever??????, for the church newsletter or whatever??????, he could do that after the service and by having gone to the Elders and asked for permission to do so and made the proper arrangements. I would dare say that texting during worship services in many churches today is not uncommon. igiveup
