On another Reformed board, the discussion of Tim Keller came up. Which is something that I do not enjoy discussing. Anyway it became clear that Tim Keller is still despite his believing in Contemplative Spirituality and Theistic Evolution is a favourite among many supposedly Reformed Christians.
When I tried to press the issue, I was told that though these issues are wrong they should not be the litmus test for Christian fellowship. They told me in no uncertain terms that if I make these things essential, I have limited myself to fellowship with very few people.
Obviously I disagree; but is there a way to show how this issue is of upmost importance?

Actually, you do, you really do make yourself open to fellowship with a small group of people. They are set apart from the world for they have been called out from the world. You see, the Keller folk, those who follow such popular preachers don't care much for orthodoxy. Anyone who says they are a Christian is a Christian to them despite what they truly believe. They are the tolerant calvinists, and oh yes, I know plenty of them. But you can tell them anything really. You become to them too harsh, or judgmental. But we are told that this would happen so it is expected. Sad perhaps, but expected.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.

As I think about what you just said; you are absolutely correct.
It also reminded me of an article that I think I read by CH Spurgeon (I think it was Spurgeon) that went along the same lines as what you said. I think it was probably on this site as well.
If you know of an article that matches that description; please post it.
The following is not what I am thinking of, but do you believe it might be appropriate? https://www.the-highway.com/articleJan08.html

Thanks
Tom
