I read an interesting blog article by Kevin DeYoung on the Spirituality of the Church doctrine. After starting with Calvin and Beza , he mentions the Second Book of Doctrine which he stated as the first explicit statement on Scottish Presbyterianism. What I'm wondering if it is the first explicit statement, then was their a First Book of Doctrine. A little help in the history of the Second Book of Doctrine.

1. Why is it important to know the answer to this? Put another way, what implications does DeYoung believe flow out of this which are beneficial?
2. Are you aware that Kevin DeYoung is part of "The Gospel Coalition"?
3. Here is a possible interesting thread concerning C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity and a review by Kevin DeYoung HERE.

I am NOT suggesting that anything/everything written or spoken by Kevin DeYoung is automatically spurious. nono But what I am trying to convey is that due to DeYoung's well-known association with and sharing of many, if not most of the views held by those in The Gospel Coalition and New Calvinist movement, he is not someone who should be naively believed and/or trusted. Discernment is the key world here. wink
