I am not sure how many will be interested; but I was just looking at the results and some comments made about it.

Here are the comments; to which I am in inclined to agree.

Not a word will be spoke about how I feel about WHO won the election last night as itís obvious where my vote went but I will comment on HOW they won. Everyone seriously has to open their eyes and have a look at how ridiculously slanted our electoral system is.

The party with the most votes and the most percentage of CANADIANS supporting them should win.

We are now legitimately being ran by a party who won a participation medal in the 2019 FEDERAL ELECTION. Because of how parliamentary seats are distributed, the runner up won. The votes of 240,642 tax paying Canadian citizens like you and I legitimately meant absolutely nothing.

Democracy is defined to be the control of an organization or group by the MAJORITY of its members and to be a practice of principles of social equality.

The MAJORITY did not win, and I guess thereís 240,642 reasons to believe that social equality has 2 different meanings according to Eastern and Western Canadaís Parliamentary seat distribution.

Imagine a hockey game where the team who scores the most goals STILL loses the game based solely on having less players sitting on the bench.

This is not democracy.

Tom. Trump did not win the popular vote neither. It is called a representative democracy whereby groups of people (location areas) elects and not a pure democracy. It seems Canada does it by the majority of districts whereas the USA is by the electoral college. Basically, it seems the same.

From the numbers I've seen, the conservatives got routed in the election. The Conservative Party received 34% and the People Party less than a percent. That means over 65% of the voters voted for progressive candidates. (Assuming thoe whacky Quebec nationalists are mostly progressive).

John

Thank you for your perspective; food for thought.
Another thing that bothers me about the Federal election, is how a party (PQ) that represents their own province Quebec, can run in a federal election. As far as I can tell, none of the other Provinces can have their own party running in the Federal election.
By the way, the day after the election within about 15 minutes at work, someone said to me. "I didn't think it was that possible to have so many idiots in one country."

I can definitely relate to that sentiment, because it is no secret how Trudeau is an embarrassment around the world. He has lied (SNC Lavalin controversy) and been found guilty in court about that lie and says there was nothing wrong with what he did. At the time, I remember how almost everybody said Trudeau needs to be gone.
Yet, when the election happens, although he lost his majority government; he still won.
There is an old saying, that goes something like:
Quote
In an election, we get exactly what we deserve.

Yes, and No. grin The U.S. is actually a Republic which is democratic (not to be confused with with the Democratic Party; a classic misnomer and oxymoron). The Electoral College provision was written as part of the US Constitution, Article II, Section 1, by the founding fathers. It was intended to bring equal representation of presidential candidates to the entire country vs. the most populated areas which would have far more knowledge of candidates than rural and outlying areas when the nation expanded over time.

Excellent video that explains how the Electoral Works, etc.

I just found time to watch the link you shared and it was very helpful.
Listening to that, I definitely favour a Republic form of government.
Thank you for providing the link.
As you know, Canada has a Democratic form of government.
It would seem however, that seeing how the Liberals in Canada, won the election without the popular vote; it would make it look like the were a Republic at least in this case unless I am mistaken on something.
Can you speak on that part of the issue?
I want to able to be able to understand the issue better should this be brought up in discussion again.

Thank you
Tom

Sorry, but I don't remember all the ins snd outs of the Parliamentary system of government. And, just on the possibility that the U.S.'s Constitutionally mandated 'Electoral College' system used in federal presidential elections is similar to what is used in Canada, I would hazard a guess that the reasons for implementing the electoral systems are not similar. shrug
