I found out not too long ago that CH Spurgeon and John Owen did not allow musical instruments for worship.
I have been trying to find out the reasons he gave for this. However, nobody seems to know for sure.
It appears that his Church even raised money so another Church could buy an organ.
If that was true, it would appear it might be just preference.

If anyone has any other insight into this; I would appreciate it.

Tom

Hi Tom,
In what I have read ( the source I can't remember shrug ) , But anyhow, Spurgeon patterned the worship where he pastored after the Puritans. The Puritans were not known for musical accompaniment and so Spurgeon in like manner did not have any. I might have read this in " The Full Harvest ", Spurgeon's auto biography. But alas, my memory is fading....

I may be wrong on this, but if my understanding of the Puritans is correct.
Most Puritan Churches were often of humble means and could not afford musical instruments. Choosing instead to use their money on other things.
