Did RC Sproul answer the question asked?

A Reformed friend said although he does not disagree with what Sproul said. He never actually answered the question.

The question was "WHY" did God create the devil.

It's the same kind of question as "Why did God choose me and not my friend." There's no real answer. But we do get a hint of why there is evil, a devil, and sin.

God wants His glory known by all His creatures. His mercy is glorious, His hatred of sin is glorious, His justice is glorious. We would know none of these aspects of God's glory without sin, and without a devil.

Of course I agree with you.
However, did Sproul actually answer the young girl’s question?

He asked her to think. The conclusion is inevitable. No good teacher just gives the answer, but wants his students to arrive at it on their own, given some facts and some context.

So, no, not directly.

The answer is, "For His own glory."

Most people, hearing that, might conclude that God is a megalomaniac, a hostile deity that is perfectly willing to let billions of intelligent beings writhe eternally in flames just to satisfy his own ego.

That is why Dr. Sproul went to such lengths to supply context to the question and it's answer.
