What Heresy is this?

What Heresy is this? - Thu Aug 01, 2019 7:57 PM

Came across someone who said the following:

[quote] I do believe in a "small t" trinity. That is I believe in the God the Father, Jesus the son, and the work and power and presence of the holy spirit. I do not believe in a "big T" Trinity, meaning I do not believe the "Trinity" as defined by early church creeds where the Father, son, and spirit are 3 persons that share the essence of the one God and that all three are co-equal, co-eternal, and co-sunstantial. Though I would say the spirit is eternal but not a separate person alongside the Father and Son but I'm still working that out personally how to understand the spirit. But as far as the Father being the only true God this is attested in John 17.3, I Cor. 8.6 (not 4 my bad), Rom. 16.27, and Jude 25, among many others.[\quote]

I don't think I have heard someone say this before. However, unless I am missing something it smacks of heresy.

He added that he would love people to prove from Scripture that this is heresy.(not exact words)

Nobody has taken up the challenge yet.

Funny, this is the reaction that this person got.
Nobody said a word; maybe that is done on purpose?

Extremely busy at the moment, but I intend to respond after the weekend. In the meanwhile, the attributes of a person belong to the Holy Spirit in myriad passages of Scripture, e.g.,

(Acts 5)But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostlesí feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 While it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

You cannot lie to a "thing"; only a person which here is GOD the Holy Spirit.

(Acts 13:2) And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

A force does not speak, nor call people to service. Only a person with authority can do that.

This type of theology would be welcomed in the Jehovah Witness Kingdom hall. they would agree that the Father would be the only true God, and Jesus the small created god, and the Spirit as the divine impersonal presence of God.
