Presbyterian Churches in Orlando, FL,<br><br>I have a friend who is moving to Fl in the near future and of course they will need a good CONSERVATIVE Church to attend. OPC or PCA or ?<br><br>1.He hopes to find a Church that is both God-honoring and RTS mission supportive, but the spiritual maturity of the church itself is his primary concern. Since, he will be attending Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) he desires a church that supports the educational ministry of RTS. RTS has a matching program -- if a church or presbytery pays 1/3 of the tuition, then RTS pays 1/3, leaving the student only to pay 1/3. Since, he is financially embarrassed at the moment this is a consideration. <br><br>2. Also, if someone here is from the Orlando/Oviedo area could you suggest an apartment complex for him. Personal experience or knowledge of an area is valuable to someone who has never been to the Orlando area.<br><br>3. In addition, if you know of any private grants or scholarship programs on the "net" that support Presbyterians or seminarians going to seminary I am sure he would appreciate that information as well. Here are some names of PCA churches in the general vicinity that your friend might want to visit. Except for some of the Pastors names, I don't know much about them. They are Willow Creek in Winter Springs, Covenant & Saint something in Winter Park, University right south of Oveido in Orlando, and Orangewood in Maitland. I have visited Willow Creek and Orangewood once and both seem to have RTS connections.

You might also consider St. Andrews Chapel in Sanford. This is R.C. Sproul's church.

I was browsing through this locator forum and ran into your posts on the topic. Since you are now at RTS-Orlando, give us your thoughts on the question. The Sunday after last year's Ligonier Conference, I visitied Covenant at RTS and it was a fine church. I even made it to Ra's SS class.

The worship team of Covenant actually does the weekly Chapel worship at the RTS campus. The worship is still to contemporary for me personally (though the friend of mine mentioned above attends there), though they are now becoming more traditional in their services (but not enough for me)....changes are coming slowly, but surely.

Though Ra and I have some differing views he is an excellent teacher isn't he (--works for III Mill). What did you think of Ra's hair? What is real hard at Covenant is knowing that John Frame is sitting there taking notes while you are teaching/preaching....now that is pressure. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/comfort.gif" alt="" />

Is that the church you attend? I often wondered in churches that have a lot of trained (or in-training) seminarians involved with the church, does that restrict normal layman from participating as leaders/teachers.

Yes, Ra doesn't fit the mold of a PCA Elder. But, his for love and desire for the Bible shown through. The Sunday I visited the minister spoke of his being on death row, and his spiritual journey. That was quite an eye-opener and the sermon was very forceful. I was sitting next to Robert Barnes, if you know him.

I thought the contemporary worship was very tasteful and God-centered. What I wasn't accustom to was the weekly communion and having it before the sermon.

As to Frame taking notes; it may give the person some leverage. They can always claim plagairism, which might earn them a better grade. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bigglasses.gif" alt="" />

No I do not attend there--just familiar with some that goes on. As I said they do the Chapel services for the RTS Campus.

The laymen/women there (and at the others Churches) may still become very involved. Pastors realize that seminarians come and go and thus actually attempt to plan around this activity with some stability of those that will hopefully be there for longer periods of time.

Ra does have a great testimony and as I said he is a good teacher. I have met Robert and conversed with him actually more on-line then in person. He also is a very gifted person.


Frame also teaches ethics and thus me no think there is any advantage there. He is one of the most gracious men though I know. He has the calmest of spirits and very loving. Now, that does not translate always into great grades--just honest sincere ones <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I too have sat under the tutelage of John Frame. And while I was at WTS (Philly), he was rather intimidating, to say the least; with his 25 syllabus on how to study for his classes, etc. The work load was grueling and beyond most of us. However, over the years he has changed his views or "come out of the closet" on several issues, e.g., creation and worship. And now that I know where he stands on those issues, my respect for him has diminished considerably. If I ever had the opportunity to sit under him again, that former intimidation would not exist as it once did. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Well I have him for two classes this semester and so it will be a test to be sure along with the other 4 classes (Frames tests are monsters...)..... as stated here before in some areas I do disagree with him.....but when it comes to his Doctrine of the Knowledge of God, The Doctrine of God (his classics), etc. it is still very intimidating for yours truly.

I have on occasion sent e-mails to John Frame to ask questions about articles he has written and he was very gracious to respond to my communications. One thing sticks out in my mind when I think of this man. He's gracious, helpful, has a teacher's heart, and is still learning.

Those are good qualities in my mind.

I fully agree. He answers e-mails in a timely manner also, which is amazing seeing how busy he is, etc. Another book I forgot to mention was Apologetics for the Glory of God--well balanced.
