1. If I want pictures or unusual emoticons, I need an URL. Now, don't laugh too loudly at me- but what URL do I use? Is there, like, a site that has all these emoticons and animated pictures that I am seeing everywhere?

2. Whyizzit that when I come to this site, I have to log in every time?

3. How can I change my user name? I tried re-logging in and changing it, but it didn't work- said my computer # already had a user name.

Markup uses brackets like this [, just type the name of the smiley in the FAQ you would like to use and enclose it in brackets.
This is preferable because the smilies are on our own server, and guarenteed to be there for a long time, so that when someone searches the archives those smilies will still be there. There are smiley sites that allow you to copy and paste URL's of smilies from other servers, and when I get a chance, I will try to give you some instructions for that, but right now things are a little busy...administratively speaking.

In reply to:

2. Let an administrator know when you have done this, and we will delete the old username if you do not plan to use it anymore. This is the only way I know of to do this. It will mean of course that you will have to re-edit all your preferences.
We started using the software for these forums only since this past spring, Pilgrim has done a lot of work to make it user friendly, but is still working on getting all the kinks out.
