A friend is trying to fill me out on my Christian beliefs. All I know from him is that he uses David Padfield's study notes, and Padfield is a pastor of the non-denominational Church of Christ in Zion, Il. My friend goes to a non-denominational Church of Christ.

When I went to the below site, I can find no statement of faith, just articles on what is wrong with certain things along with a few debates. I would just like to find out their beliefs and where my friend is coming from. Here is the website.

https://www.padfield.com

https://www.padfield.com/2005/calvinism.html (article on Calvinism)

The "Church of Christ" rejects all and any formalized creed or confession which would explain why no "statement of faith" is found on their website. That denomination, which rejects even the idea that they are a denomination is fairly recent. They are often called "Campbellites" after one of the major proponents of that movement, Alexander Campbell, but they again reject any association with any individual. Their theology is basically semi-Pelagian and believe that baptism is an integral and necessary part of true conversion.

You can read more about them in myriad articles online, but a Wikipedia article can be found here: Churches of Christ. Now, whether this particular church; "Church of Christ in Zion" is part of the historical non-denominational Church of Christ, you will have to establish that from your 'friend'. grin Bottom line is they are a sect and reject all other belief systems that claim to be Christian, especially Calvinism... surprise, surprise. giggle

So strange that people reject creeds as if they are false simply because they're not Scripture. But in fact, Paul refers to creeds even in the founding days of the New Testament Church. He calls them "faithful sayings, worthy of acceptation" in his letters to Timothy (1st Tim. 1:15 and 3:1, 2nd Timothy 2:11-13). These were the among earliest creeds!

The irony is their hypocrisy because they summarily reject any man-written creed/confession, but they have no problem answering someone who asks, "What do you believe?" with statements of doctrine. Funny how the apostle Paul wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the first use of Scripture is "doctrine/teaching":

Quote
2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) 16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
grin
