And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. Isaiah 35:8
A map is designed to lead the traveler to the destination desired. Safety and ease in the way is an important part of the consideration. This is used by world travelers for their well being. It would make the journey to eternity much more important, but God's way is not only a road, it is His eternal unchangeable blueprint for His glory. It is the way of salvation, the only way! God, the Creator of all things, revealed this way after the fall in Paradise, which brought complete alienation from Him. God could not behold nor have any communion with sin. He came to Adam, stripped him of his self-made righteousness, (fig leaves), and clothed him by killing an animal, shedding its blood, and using the skins for a covering for them. God had given them the promise of a seed to be given for restoration. “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15). God could not pass by sin without the shedding of blood, already shown in the sons in the time of Adam and Eve, Cain and Able. “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect” (Genesis 4:1-5a). This was shown throughout the Old Testament. The blood of animals could not wash away sin, but only pointed to God's way. God's way is outside of ourselves in the triune God through Jesus Christ alone. He shed His blood as a ransom for the sins of His people on the Cross of Calvary. This was and is the promised seed! “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh” (Hebrews 9:11-13). This is God's way, the only way. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). It leads to eternal life. Even more it restores alienated souls into fellowship with God bringing them to the chief end of why man was created, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Ye people of the Lord, in Him alone confide; From this time forth and evermore His wisdom be your guide.
Psalter 366:3 taken from Psalm 131
