From what Dave originally wrote and that which he subsequently wrote, I am still under the impression that he is asking about the matter of salvation; i.e., the means of the Gospel whereby a sinner's heart is moved. Can this happen apart from the written Word of God; i.e., can/does the Holy Spirit "work in the sinner's heart" without/not in conjunction with the written Word? Thus, my answer was, "No".
