This is a sermon by George Whitefield on the text, Jeremiah 18:1-6. In it, he deals with two points which he writes: First, I shall undertake to prove, that every man naturally engendered of the offspring of Adam, is in the sight of the all-seeing, heart-searching God, only as a “piece of marred clay.”
Secondly, That being thus marred, he must necessarily be renewed: and under this head, we shall likewise point out by whose agency this mighty change is to be brought about.
Doubtless, such preaching of the depravity of man and of his inability but necessity to be born from above by a sovereign act of Almighty God would not be well-received today. But can anyone argue that such is that which is most needed today? Read the sermon here: The Potter and the ClayYou can find this sermon, for later reading, on the second page of the Sermon Library, linked from the home page.
