If you have a genuine opportunity to witness for Christ, in any area, whether a full presentation of the Gospel, or a little thing here or there, or a apologetic conversation, do it. All our "security" can be taken whether one witnesses for God or not, so take the risk. And I agree, with you, it is a real risk.

Think about what Joab and Abishai, Esther, and Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego, and Paul. They were not sure whether or not God would protect them in their risk, but they did what they thought God wanted them to do anyway.
