How do I make this link executable?

banneroftruth.org/pages/articles/article_detail.php?739

What I would like to learn is how to make the above link not only exectuable, but also not show the whole "go" line but instead say something like Banner of Truth or article.

This is how you do it:

[ url= put link here ]article name[ /url ]

(Don't put any spaces in. That was done so you could see the syntax.)

Kim,

The answer to that question can be found in the FAQ section here: FAQ: "Can I use html in my posts?"

I'll also show you how here. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

In the following examples, I will use the "code" tags to show how the string looks otherwise the tags themselves won't be displayed. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

So, on this Board there are actually "3" ways to create a clickable link:

1) Simply type or copy/paste the URL into your message. It will be automatically converted to a clickable link, e.g., http://www.the-highway.com

2) Making the URL (address) clickable by using the UBB Code tags:

Code
[url]http://www.the-highway.com[/url]
The result will look exactly like #1 example above: http://www.the-highway.com

3) Hiding the actual URL and making an alternate Title/Name clickable:

Code
[url=http://www.the-highway.com]Home Page[/url]
With this option, only the Text will be displayed but clicking it will take you to the hidden URL (address). So it would look like this:

Home Page

All three methods require that you include http://www. in the address. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

(url=banneroftruth.org/pages/articles/article_detail.php?739)Banner of Truth(/url)

Replace the () with [] and it will do this.......

<a href="banneroftruth.org/pages/articles/article_detail.php?739" target="_blank">Banner of Truth</a>

(url=actual URL)Your tag(/url)

Another simple way is to omit your tag.......

(url)actual URL(/url)

Yours would look like this.......

banneroftruth.org/pages/articles/article_detail.php?739

Hope this helps. Pilgrim could help a lot more.

God bless,

william

After all that, your link doesn't even work <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes2.gif" alt="" />

It isn't a problem with your link though. The page appears to be having trouble at the moment.

<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rofl.gif" alt="" /> There is nothing wrong with the page.... I just went there with the correct URL. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

The problem with averagefellar's link is that he left out the "http://www" at the beginning of the address. I mentioned this in my first reply at the end. There are some addresses which don't need the "www"; most do. But to make the link clickable on this Board, you MUST at least include: http:// at the beginning of the address. [Linked Image]

Thanks for all the help.

I am a bit embarrassed that I didn't find it in the FAQ--I did look there. . . <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/sorry.gif" alt="" />

We encourage people to post their questions here so that everyone can benefit from the answers, assuming that the answers are beneficial! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rofl.gif" alt="" />

I've added quite a bit of material to the FAQ over the years so the list is quite lengthy and sometimes it is admittedly rather difficult to find what you are looking for. Between the FAQ, User Guide and the threads in the New Features forum, most of what people want to know can be found. But sometimes, as in your case, the question someone has isn't easily found or those 3 sections don't deal with it.

Nevertheless, I'm glad you asked. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Come on back soon, y'hear? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/giggle.gif" alt="" />
