Seems clear enough to me.

I have three words. 1. Repulsive: I am offended that you should have such a low view of God's holy word that you would make a mockery of it this way. 2. Banal: I a weary of vapid people who just point the finger, wag the tongue and refuse to take responsibility for themselves. 3. Sophomoric: Time for people to grow up and stop blaming others. Time to take action and get down on your knees and ask for forgiveness for having offended the Lord, ask Him to guide and bless our leaders, give us wisdom so that we might discern a right course of action, and the grace by which we might walk in the good works God has ordained for us.
By the way, I didn't like your post. It was untrue and an unseemly approach for a Christian to take. Are you a Christian? In any event, perhaps time out of the country say an extended vacation in North Korea might brighten your perspective a bit and help you to appreciate what we do still have here.

chestnutmare,
I am trying to figure out what I said that offended you. Was your post really directed to me?

Oops, no. Sorry. It was the original post that I was responding to. The actual lyrics that were posted.

North Korea is an isolated bureaucratic state, much as the Soviet Union was from Stalin on. This is based on the false premise of Socialism in one country. In many senses this is little different than Hitler's fascist state. Just because we live in the greatest country on the planet does not mean nothing here is wrong, that nothing needs to be changed. I attended an Episcopal church at one time...had I taken the perspective of "appreciate what I have" I would still be there, because at least they are a Christian church (they still have the 39 Articles in the Prayer Book) and they still read Scripture in services. But I knew there was a BIG problem in the Episcopal church. My point with all of this is not to say the USA is not great, because it is. Only that we have problems. Certainly you and I (actually everybody at this site) would agree there are problems with the USA. We certainly differ on what those problems are.

Simple question: would this have bothered you so much had the poem been about John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, etc.?

Yes, it would have (for me at least).
True godliness is a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences Him as Lord, embraces His righteousness, and dreads offending Him worse than death~ Calvin

I'm not going to speak for the others in this discussion who have, IMHO, rightly criticized this "poem", but I would answer, "Yes" to your question without hesitation. Why? for all the reasons I've already stated in my other replies. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> In His Grace,

It not only would have bothered me, I would think the same thing I think about it posted as it is above: That the only purpose one has in sharing such vitriole is the desire to "stir the pot." When asked why you posted this diatribe you responded: Because I think it is relevant. I think too many people who call themselves Christian are oblivious to all the negatives of our current President. Simply because he is a professing Christian they jump to his defense. I have a question for you. You said you posted it because you thought it relevant. Would you think it relevant if I posted a rant against, oh, say Michael Moore? I suspect too many people who call themselves "liberals" are oblivious to the negatives concerning the this man and his work. I have seen for myself how professing liberals jump to his defense, even when presented with the facts behind the falsehoods in his documentaries. I believe that if I were to go to a liberal website and post a rant against Michael Moore, not only would I NOT persuade anyone of Moore's negatives, I would not bring anyone around to my point of view. Therefore, the only thing I can conclude is that if I were to post such a diatribe on a liberal website, I would be doing it to stir things up.

Good afternoon! Regarding your post. 1) Feel free to rant against Michael Moore. Although some things he states are factual and have value, in general he engages in fantasy. 2) As far as I know, The Highway is not a Republican party (United States) website and is not affiliated with an political or economic system. Since I did NOT say 'George Bush is bad because he is a Christian', your comment about going to a liberal website is not equivalent since I did not attack the President of this great nation on his being a Christian. NOW, if you want to state, as others have, that my posting of a parody of Psalm 23 is in bad taste, then I will fully accept that criticism and for those I have offended by doing so, I am 100% sorry. 3) Trying to change people's minds is a good thing. Christians are called to do this in sharing the Gospel with an unbelieving world. Protesters do it with peaceful protests. Isn't the point to raise awareness among those who disagree with you, not to preach to the choir?
