CovenantInBlood: "You completely ignored my question about the abiding nature of faith and hope in v. 13. How do faith and hope abide when Christ has returned? Besides which, what is it that makes the man "complete" in your citation of II Tim. 3:17? None other than SCRIPTURE, per v. 16 of the same chapter. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other reasons to reject your notion that the charismatic gifts are continuing."
I have thought about this discussion and I have discussed it with an Elder from my church and I have arrived at the following conclusion, Let me say this firstly, in Jamaica today there are many debates between those in the Christian faith defending the contents of the Bible and Jesus Christ as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and those who contest the New testament and many Bible stories. The problem with these discussions is that those arguing on the side of the contents of the Bible keep referring to the contents therein to make a point to someone who does not believe what it says. So what then is the point of the discussion. Just posturing sessions to show the knowledge of each presenter and not profitable for either of the parties in any other way.
(My conclusion)this is not the same thing but the situation has a similarity, it is my intention to examine what the Bible says with someone who believes in the Bible as do I, however you believe something that I do not. You believe that the statement "that which is perfect", refers to the written Word of God and therefore this belief has implications on how you look at other scriptures that can be used to argue against the theological position that you have presented. Based on your references and Phraseologies I would say that you have studied quite a bit about the theological precepts that you present and have come to hold fast to the meanings and implications of many scriptures in the Bible and the context of such in a way that I have not. I however though I attend a church (where I was Baptised and have been active in) that belongs to a body of Churches that happen to hold to the same theology as you. Much of the discussion has been discussed in private sessions in cell groups and on a larger scale within the bigger groups because they are questions that are not answered in the statement of theology but are answered within the bible. The discussions continue. So having said all that, I now question the point behind continuing our discussions if we look at the Scriptures differently what seems obvious to me is not supported by the theology, and it matters not how old the theology is, at the end of the day the question that needs looking into, is what is the Truth as indicated in the bible not someone elses interpretation (including my own) of what the Word say. The sharing of these things or rather the examination of these things must be to uplift each other and strengthen each other, not to tear down. If the discussion is not achieving this then why continue it?
I believe that the Bible is the Inpsired Word of God and everything in it is the truth 2 Timothy 3:16. That said, I believe that we are not perfect, the elect are not yet perfect, as it is a continuos process until we come to the point where the meaning of the scriptures become clear to us without the opinions of men entering in. Paul stated in 1 Cor 2:4-5 the importance of the presence of the Holy spirit. 1 Cor 14:24-25 follows on the same precept as in chapter 2. I believe that what Paul say in this chapter is true regarding Tongues being spoken in the Church openly by everyone as is done in some So-Called Charismatic Churches this is confusion and is not right. But it does not say that in this dispensation of time it does not exist. Good Day to you all and may God's richest Blessing overcome you all. Delivered.
