Joe k,

Perhaps Joe. I rant because I have been around people who have diefied men and confessions. IT is not happy company. I am now done with this. I said my peace and will move on.

And who might be the "happy company" here?

It is illogical and an ad hominem attack to refuse to consider the WCF simple because others have labeled those who wrote it "divines". Personally I do not care for the title "Reverend", but that does not prevent me from listening to men who have spent many hours studying God's words.

What you are suggesting is that only YOU and your barely hidden teachers have all the answers in interpreting the Scripture. So then, please interpret this for me.

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.

Who, pray tell, might these teaching men be if not men like John Calvin and those who faithfully labored to put together many of the great confessions and catechisms? I'm afraid you are on the very edge of going "SOLO" and starting your own "Church of the Apostolic Prophet Joe K".

Could it be possible that at least one or two men in history might have had a better grasp and gift of teaching Scripture than yourself? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" /> And if so please tell me where it is forbidden to give honor to whom honor is due?

Denny: I honestly will try my best to respond to your amiss post. Look back at all I have said, it noway funnels to what you perceive it to be.

I was not speaking of anyone here, but personal aquaintences of mine. And in no means was I implying a solo appraoch. We are all part of the community of faith. And God has qualified those who have gone before us as servants of Him, and teachers of the Word. Aknowledging this is important part of the Kingdom.

I use the writings and confessions as study tools and find them extremely helpful and I am great appreciative of those who penned them.

That said, it does not change the fact that certain churchianity people will elevate men and confessions to the level of Scripture. Diefying them and become parrots of these writings. IT becomes a faith by proxy for SOME. Protestants have created their own magisterium by doing this. Tradition should never become traditionalism, and we should always be ready to challenge what is taught.

I am sorry if I implied I am smarter or more learned than those saints of the past. Far from it.

There never was a sinner half as big as Christ is as a Savior.

Joe,

OK, maybe I did read some animosity and undo disrespect for Calvin and the Westminster "divines" into your posts.

You did, however, bring some anger here from another thread in which you were clearly arguing against doctrine set forth in the WCF. Even this is OK, but you may not couple your argument with an accusation that your opponents "idolize" the confession itself.

Thank you for your civil and Christian response and if I read your posts amiss, I apologize.

I have seldom seen this done here on the Highway except by a few of those who are no longer with us.
