I have noticed that we have the option of "replying" to a post or "Quick Replying." What is the difference, and why would it be better to quick reply as opposed to replying?

It's an abbreviated reply. You don't have all the options that are offered in a regular reply.
Just open the screen to each one and you'll see the different choices.
