10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds. 2 John was preached on last night at church, and it was a wonderful sermon. I desire to discuss it here, specifically these two verses. How far should these verses be taken? Does this prevent us from sharing the Gospel with a Mormon missionary in our own home, or is there a better way to witness to him? Does this mean we shouldn't tell a JW "I hope your day goes well"? What about fixing the tire of a group of United Church of Christ persons going on a spiritual retreat? What about buying from a bakesale at a Jewish synagogue? When does giving a cup of water in Christ's name become participating in evil deeds?
True godliness is a sincere feeling which loves God as Father as much as it fears and reverences Him as Lord, embraces His righteousness, and dreads offending Him worse than death~ Calvin
