Delivered, First off..... to The Highway Discussion Board. We have discussed this topic several times in the past here and it seems that the overall consensus is that the majority of members believe that government run "welfare" programs are not what God wills. But rather, it is the Church which should be the primary source of aid for the poor, i.e., true believers should be the ones who care for the needy of this world. Ironically, it would appear that this is not what is happening and thus I suppose one should be grateful for government run programs otherwise a far greater number of needy people would be without anything. You wrote: It is my view that those of us who have discovered the Grace of God through Jesus our Christ behave like good Samaritans by taking a active role in looking out for our downed brothers and sisters. I'm not sure how you are using the designation "brothers and sisters", but it is certainly true that the Church should look to their own first who are in need and then to those outside the Church thereafter. IF, however, you are using that phrase to designate everyone, then I would have to question your understanding of who these "brothers and sisters" are according to Scripture which uses that term to designate ONLY those who have at least made a valid profession of faith. In His Grace,
simul iustus et peccator
