On January 1, 2006 Benedict XVI declared in his World Day of Peace Address (World Day of Peace is a continuation of the Assisi interfaith prayer meetings) that believers in Christ must place themselves in cooperation with other Christians and followers of other religions for the sake of peace. Given the example of the Assisi gatherings that equals synchretism and apostasy.

1. As European church leaders, in consultation with councils of churches in the USA and the Middle East, we remain extremely concerned with the continued calls for military action against Iraq by the US and some European governments. As people of faith, our love of neighbour compels us to oppose war and to seek peaceful resolution of conflicts.
