To be honest, I think that this symbol could be considered either way, according to Romans 14. The image, in and of itself, is certainly not a depiction of the man Christ Jesus. Thus, I believe it would not come under the prohibition of the Second Commandment. However.... depending upon the individual, it could be an "idol", that is if the person deemed it as a depiction/representation of Christ and/or used it for the purposes of aiding in worship, teaching and/or veneration.
