In reply to:
[color:"blue"]But one of the arguments someone who is anti-war would counter with is that by going to war we are making American women (and men) widows and American children fatherless (and motherless).

Steve,

Here is just one of so many hypocritical soapbox tirades offered by the majority of the "anti-war" crowd. I would venture to say that there are as many, if not even more murderers on the home turf that create "American widows and fatherless children". Further, why are they protesting such things against the American regime, and were no where to be found when Saddam Hussein slaughtered, tortured and maimed over 500,000 of his own people? Is it only a crime against humanity when American soldiers are killed in a war meant to liberate an oppressed people? The rhetoric is without end. But sound thinking seems to be something of a commodity among some, eh?

In His Grace,
The "funny" thing is MOST people who make these arguments would not lift a finger for an American soldier! They go on an on about what risks we are taking because it resonates with some people. Yet, notice the families of soldiers see right through the facade!

My wife has noted how most protesters are protesting merely for the sake of protesting! They go from their legalize marijuana protest to their anti-war protest to their save the cairn terrier protest. One wonders how they have time to vote in elections with all their protesting! I often wonder if they were this way as children, holding signs protesting their french toast that morning, or perhaps they were oppressed because there was too much pulp in their orange juice.

Steve
Steve,

Perhaps their depravity is simply being expressed due to the fact that they have had it so good since their birth. They have never experienced hardship, never had to fight oppression, expect that life is to be "Waldon Two"; i.e., a Utopia where everything approximates what we hope for in the New Heaven and New Earth? Nearly everything has been given to many of them and rarely have they had to go without. If they had to go without their obscene music, weren't able to download their plethora of illegally obtained MP3's and videos, their cars, etc., they would revolt even more. While one can expect non-Christians to act and think in this manner, it is very disturbing to see those who profess Christ to do so. I often wonder if these "protesters" think it odd that the Jews who were thrust into a place such as Auschwitz didn't march around with signs protesting the invasion of the Allies who came to liberate them during WWII?

In His Grace,

Pilgrim,
I think that certainly has something (quite a bit) to do with it, yet it is no excuse. Perhaps with better history teachers, they would have an idea of how the world HAS worked, and to better understand the future.
I am 30 years of age, never having experienced anything the likes of which my Dad experienced (he is 71). Yet, by the excellent history teachers I had, I could at least understand the sacrifices he and his parents endured. It is my fear that excellent history teachers (and objective history, for that matter) are dying out.

Steve
Well even I being new in the faith have enough sense to offer someones car a cool drink in Jesus name. And as far as lost people go there are still a lot of nice people out there.
Steve,

No doubt, having good history teachers would go a long way in at least informing later generations of the sacrifices which their forebears made and the benefits which were gained for them. But the West has fallen into a rank Epicurianism; [color:blue]Let us eat, drink and be merry, for perhaps tomorrow we die.". There is little concern for the future but only living life now and with "gusto". The current generation which is college age, expects that their education should be free or nearly so. Working their way through college isn't an option for many of them. On the contrary, I worked my way through 3 grad schools, working full and part-time jobs and raised 5 children. Picketing government offices and/or university administration buildings because of alleged unreasonable tuition fees wasn't in the agenda. I was too busy working and studying to be bothered with such trite and self-serving agendas. Today's student will support Union teachers when they go out on strike for higher wages, but then complain that tuition rates are too high. "Reality" isn't part of their vocabulary, it seems. Well, what we have among us is the blind leading the blind and they shall surely fall over the precipice after having gained their earthly rewards. Our joy, however, is that we know that amidst the hell-bound hordes there is a remnant, a peculiar people, chosen of God from eternity which will be called out from among them to the glorious light of liberty which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. These are men, women and children who walk by faith and gratitude, having been rescued from this wicked world and their own sinfulness. Generations have gone before us and there will be, no doubt, generations after us, of whom it will be said,
Hebrews 11:13 (ASV) "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth."
In His Grace,
As an American who is rather irritated by the fact that our patriotism has lead to such immature and terrible behavior please tell your relatives that while I cannot speak for the rest of my countrymen I am sorry. I thought that our country had grown up a little since 1942 but please know that the Lord still loves us and that we need His grace as much as Iraq.
Tom,

While I don't condone anyone ever being treated in an cruel manner, it is not to the edification of the body to start something that you say you don't believe. Tom, we all know that we live in a fallen world and that ALL of us from EVERY country can be sinful, so I just didn't understand why you even brought up those facts, as though Canada was in no way like that!! We are all sinners, so why be surprised? Sad, yes, but not surprised.

We look for a better country anyway, and all of us are on the same road to the same country.

As a mother who has lost a child, it seems to be a poor time to start ridiculing a country where families are grieving, all over the world.

Sometimes, it isn't what you say, it is when you say it, Tom.

Abiding in Him,
Linda
Sadly, after reading this thread, I am thinking not only has our country not grown up, but the Christains who extol their own further development/righteousness have not either.

My condolences also to the anti Christ treatment experienced by Tom's relatives.

"Whosoever smitheth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also" and "Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you"

Folks, remember about the guy named Jesus????

Agape and peace,
Human
