Please don't take this the wrong way gang. There are just some things you can't help but notice--even watching the news.

Now I know Hollywood isn't exactly (as in not at all) the first town you think about when you think of Spirituality, but has anyone noticed how religious they've gotten of late? It seems that in recent years they have taken the idea of a messiah (little m) and spun it fifty different directions--all of them ideal for movie plots. What concerns me, and heres my question coming up, is the undue influence the exercise over the whole country.

Why is it that they are doing this?

Heres my list of movies, though there are probably a great deal more:
The Matrix
The Terminator
Some of those Jet Li-ish karate films
Star Wars--all about a "chosen one"
Several TV series

All of which either extol a reliance on a single human being for deliverance from a terrible plight or make fun of religious (read Christian) values or cast them in an evil light.

My quick answer is that the Evil One is using these types of films as a "vaccine"... i.e., a little bit of the object you want to eradicate is injected into the system which then stimulates the body's immune system with the result that the disease will eventually be blocked. In like manner these films inject a little bit of "spirituality" into the minds of the unwary and thus they become accustomed and eventually immune to the true spirituality when or if it comes to them. In short, these films anesthetize one's mind and create even more apathy to spiritual things in the soul.

Doulos,

Movies are just products that sell. They change from year to year. This year something is IN and next year it's OUT. The Movie Industry is just a business. It tries to develop products which make money. It's all about money, money, money, and giving the public what they want! Just like TV and other media it's only a medium which transmits the values of those who own or purchase time on them.

I agree with you it has a great amount of influence on movie buffs. Just because an occasional movie comes out that seems to have morals doesn't mean Hollywood is waking up. It only means they think that this product will sell and make them money. It doesn't mean they believe what they sell or that they are finally listening to the church.

The message of the Gospel is the most wonderful story of all time. Even taking portions of it out of context are quite something. The fact that you recognize that doesn't mean they actually know that. Maybe the writers and directors don't even realize how their story parallels the biblical account. Or maybe as Pilgrim has written the devil is using it to desensitize the public to the Gospel.

Probably a little of both. I've found that the devil doesn't need much help when it comes to twisting things around.

We've got Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Tarzan, Buck Rogers, Roy Rogers, Rin Tin Tin, Lassie and Mighty Mouse.

You'd think that men would wake up and see that our God has implanted in us a need for a hero. It is so frustrating to see that most men have rejected God's immaculate hero in His divine drama.

The idolatry of Holy-Wood is IMO only a reflection of the depraved unbelief of men. It is, with rare exceptions and at best, a mindlessness waste of time to a world in desperate need of redemption. At its worst it is a vile presentation of philosophical evil and moral filth.

Whew! I hope Wonder Woman will forgive me for this outburst.

Since you are wanting to name names..... let us not forget one of Hollywood's most famous "quasi-Christ" characters; "E.T.".

Additionally, there are far more Follywood direct counterfeits which the masses swoon over, e.g., "The Passion of Christ", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "The Temptation of Christ", et al.

Pilgrim,

And soon to come, STARING TOOOOOM HAAAANKSSS!!!!, is the DaVinci Code. This movie, from what I know of the book, will literally give any Christian shivers from its spirit of evil. It is a blasphemous fairy tale about "hidden secrets of the life of Christ".

Be prepared for another "Mega Box Office Hit" and assault on God's Word.
