Tell me about the Orthodox Presbyterian Churches. Is there something I should know before joining.

BibleRon said: Tell me about the Orthodox Presbyterian Churches. Is there something I should know before joining. Generally pretty orthodox, like the name says. There are, however, some theonomists and some influences from the New Perspective on Paul and Auburn Avenue theology, so you want to check out the local congregation.

I would only add to what CovenantInBlood has already mentioned that there is also a "movement" within the OPC toward "hyper-covenantalism", without the errors associated with NPP/Auburnitism, etc. This is to be seen in such things as paedo-communion and presumptive regeneration. As the old adage goes, "Buyer Beware"! Each individual congregation often differs. So it is prudent to not judge the entire denomination by one individual church.

For an excellent article on NPP see J. Ligon Duncan's critique here: The Attractions of the New Perspective(s) on Paul. See also this series by Philip Eveson: The Great Exchange. The salient portions are Part Three and Part Four, although the entire series is excellent reading.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Galatians 2:16
