David W. said: This is sickening. I guess it should be no surprise with so many ungodly judges in our courts. When I first read the subject of this thread, I thought for sure it had to do with some "judge" in Canada. Such indescribably light sentences for heinous and serious crimes are commonplace in Canada. Rarely do Judges here give out lengthy prison terms for even the most serious crimes, e.g., murder. We have several Judges in the Vancouver courts who regularly order "house arrest" sentences for murder. Repeat offenders, e.g., DWI infractions most often get sentenced to 30, 60 or 90 days, even after being convicted more than a dozen times for the same offense. IMHO, the basic problem can be found in the near total rejection of God in our societies. If there is no God then there is no object standard of law but rather that which men determine which they think is conducive to the betterment of mankind. One would be hard-pressed to find a Judge and/or Prosecutor who thinks a convicted individual should be sentenced commensurate with the seriousness of the crime committed. The accepted thinking today, thanks to bone-headed, godless psychiatrists/psychologists, is "rehabilitation" without regard to "punishment". . . shades of Waldon Two! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes2.gif" alt="" /> In His grace,
simul iustus et peccator

I read this story this morning and was deeply saddened by it. That is the sort of judicial leniency that set the scene for the murders of those girls in Florida last year. My heart goes out to that young girl who now must learn to live with the evil she has had endure at such a tender age.
Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Great, so now this wicked, perverse man will go to therapy where he will be told that he is a "victom" of society, that basically he's a "good man" and that he just needs to connect with the "inner child" within him. He will need to put this all behind him, so he can start to feel "good about himself" and get his "self esteem" back.
And after all this "wonderfully" expensive, state funded, therapy, he can then go back out into the world where he will pick up where he left off and prey on another little girl.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. - Galatians 2:16

Puritan, He will need to put this all behind him, so he can start to feel "good about himself" and get his "self esteem" back. This philosophy of "self-esteem" is also now rife in our (even Christian) schools. Has anyone noticed that the lists of "honor society" members in our local newspapers now include just about every student and sometimes their pets and imaginary friends? The evil idea of self-esteem allows threatening and aggressive criminals to walk down the halls, and instruction to consist of watching cartoons and the "applied science" of class participation in sex education. We do not need pride and self-esteem but humility, discipline and truth, as bare naked truth seldom, if ever, seduces a proud and arrogant mind. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/my2cents.gif" alt="" /> Denny Roms 3:22-24

You can read more here. http://www.wcax.com/Global/story.asp?S=4330770&nav=4QcS"All of the literature I've read said if you're interested in changing behavior, you don't have to do it inside. If anything, you have a better chance of success with an outside program," said Cashman when he handed out the 60-day sentence to Hulett on Wednesday. http://www.wcax.com/Global/story.asp?S=4330729&nav=4QcSanother good site: http://www.pearceyreport.com/Psalm 94:20 Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute? 21 They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. Proverbs 28:5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely.

As a Canadian I can testify as to the truth of your statements. It is a very sad reality of our societies.
I did hear something positive in the election promises of the various parties. It appears if they can be believed that they are going to double the minimum sentences of violent crimes. The Conservatives also are talking the toughest on these kinds of crimes and at this point they are a head in the poles. In the end however, only time will tell if they fulfill these election promises.

Here is a quote from Os Guiness in an interview on Confronting Evil http://www.washtimes.com/culture/20050419-105235-9557r.htm. He says "More recently, we have a generation of postmodernism, so that in some circles there is the bizarre idea that it's worse to judge evil than it is to do evil." I have been thinking that it should not surprise us that the world acts the way it does and that what should surprise us is when Christians act the same way. Os Guiness helps to bring a perspective on evil in our world that helps to make sense of what has happened here. I think that the judge is certainly basing his judgements on his personal worldview and that he rejects what we see as just punishment of this crime as being worse than the offense itself.
