This will be of interest to those of you who have followed the recent immigration protests here in the U.S., and anyone else concerned about the problems with illegal immigration and "multiculturalism" in America: Student protests at Montebello High in L.A. county

If they love Mexico so much, let them GO THERE (or RETURN, as the case would be for probably three-quarters of them, if not more). No one here's going to stop them.

One of the reasons why some are in favor of allowing the illegal immigrants to stay in this country is because they are hard-working. That's well and good. But, I wonder if anyone has thought that we force those on welfare to work for their wages, then we would not need the hard-working immigrants.

I'm a somewhat idealistic on this issue. I say let them come. Just do not give them any government aid or privileges, including free schooling for their offsprings. I don't know if closed borders are supported biblically. Now, if the government has instituted a close door policy, then we are to obey the government.

Kyle,

I agree with Rob Port's post where he quoted Teddy Roosevelt on this topic.

Quote
Rob Port is reminded of Teddy Roosevelt's words:

In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

America is called the "melting pot" where all races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds are welcomed. However, this uprising demonstrates that we are not melting or becoming a united people. IMO there is no room for people (illegal or not) to come here and dishonor our flag the way these students are doing. Teddy Roosevelt got it right!

The problem is the companies pay the illegal workers less than what they would have to pay a legal worker. Some will even cheat them out of the little they promissed to pay them knowing the worker would have a hard time proving they were cheated.

As I was reading that quote, I was thinking what if a major public figure said that today? He would be labeled a right wing xenophobic racist bigot (plus a few other choice words that can't be posted here) and would probably be strung up that flag pole if they got their hands on him.

I'm not writing in support of wide-open borders here, but I wonder if down the road, the United States will end up begging people to come here and work. The U.S. is aging rapidly because:

1. We have killed more than 40 million future workers that would have paid income and social security taxes, and

2. We have granted such generous entitlement benefits to the aged, who now live much longer than previous generations, that the burden on the working generations - whose numbers have been drastically cut by abortion - is quickly becoming unbearable.

Of course the only way immigration will help is if it is legal. Workers whose wages do not support the society are robbing us of tax money while demanding the same benefits that legal citizens enjoy.

The United States must stop the murder of future taxpayers and put the responsibility of caring for the aged where it belongs. I wonder, if God does not grant the U.S. repentance and if we continue on our present course, if the future doesn't include for the aged a "duty to die" rather than "continue to be a burden" to working families. It's kinda scary.

I can't remember where but somewhere I read the following statistics:

Number of able bodied people on welfare = (nearly exactly)
Number of illegal aliens working in USA.

When I was an infant my father was nailing together apple boxes for a living and being paid $0.05 per box in Washington State. I began my working career by climbing with a scrapper into huge dough (bread) mixing machines for minimum wage, - at that time about $1.00 per hour. The final (Wonder Bread) product was literally made in part by the sweat from my brow.

However, I did not walk 10 miles to school each day as it was only about one mile.

That sounds pretty extreme but you may be right. There is little tolerance for guys like me and Teddy today. However, the point is immigrants need to be assimulated into the country by learning the American way, speak the English language, and conform to the laws of the land. Otherwise were going to look alot like Mexico in a few years.

America is losing it's identity and has already lost her ability to control her borders. Our lawmakers may make a proposal to legalize these 11 million immigrants and then make a committment to guard her borders better in the future. This may be acceptable to some but when the next 11 million arrive on the scene because the borders haven't improved we'll be at the same point and who will we blame?

I have a friend who's a carpenter in the Denver, Colorado. He told me there are so many Mexicans working in the lumber yards there that don't speak english it has became almost impossible for him to communicate his needs.

I hope you didn't misinterpret my post. I wish more so called "conservative" lawmakers would have the courage to say this. Unfortunately they won't. Out here in California (on the "left" coast) we have the same problem with Mexicans who will not learn English. There is no incentive for them to learn because many forms (voter registration forms ), documents, billboards, advertisements, are in Spanish.

In many ways we already do.

Take it from a Canadian where we are more a mosaic than a melting pot; I like the melting pot better.

Dave,

Just to demonstrate how ridiculous this is here's a suggested letter to send to President Bush for him to discuss with President Fox.

Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this. Because I only expect to be in Mexico long enough for my children to get a quality free education (or until they want to have children), I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy. I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely. However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

The concept is good but unfortunately it's not working as well as it should be. Putting different cultures together doesn't always create a mix. Even though the Constitution begans with "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union," it's become more and more about "me" the individual and getting all I can for myself.

Sounds like the U.S is going away from the founders original ideas.
