The Highway Forums Resources HELP Forum This Board is sloooooooooow.

Is if just me or is this board really slow. I seems like it takes forever for a page to load. I love this board but I wish I could get it to run faster. Maybe I have gotten something wrong on my end. I mean, is this board running slow because it has to go through customs at the Can/Am boarder? I am currently running Firefox for my browser. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I think it's even slower now because the new law says we need passports.

It isn't just you... it is slow. It may be showing it's age. It's also depends on you Internet access. I'm sure dial-up will be significantly slower than broadband or cable.

That reminds me. The last time I got my picture taken for my passport, I looked at my picture that was just taken and said "I want another picture taken. This one doesn't do me justice. Yes, it is often slow. Unfortunately this is a problem with the servers on which the board is located. Not a lot to be done about it. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/Banghead.gif" alt="" />

Even "I" am rather disgruntled with the performance of the Board which has been an ongoing issue. As Kyle rightly replied, the problem is due mainly to the ISP (Host Provider) over-populating the mySQL (database server) in order to save money. The previous ISP was much worse than this one and that's why we moved with the hopes that things would improve.

The following are basically the only options open to us at this point:

1) Try another ISP and hope thing would be different. However, trying to locate a ISP that offers the amount of server space needed to accommodate the vast amount of data The Highway has is difficult, to say the least. One has to realize that there are over 1100 articles, sermons, etc. on the main website and then add to that the near 100 megs of database that makes up the Board.

2) Move to a dedicated server where over-population isn't an issue. But, since the amount of support that we currently receive, which doesn't even meet our present expenses, upgrading to a dedicated server which costs about $300/mo is simply out of our reach financially.

3) Purchase another Board software which "claims" to be more efficient, etc. Of course, there is no guarantees that this would rectify the problem if used on our current server(s).

In other words, it would be nothing more than sheer hope that things would improve with #1 or #3. What I did do tonight was to optimize the database tables and at least right at this moment, things have improved noticeably. But that could be nothing more than a "fluke" too. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/giggle.gif" alt="" />

So, at the end of the day, all I can offer you is an apologize for the slow performance of the Board until something viable comes along.

No need to apologize. I hope you didn't take my little rant as a gripe, I just love this board and have gotten so much out of it that I want to get even more faster. After all, is that not the American way. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/yep.gif" alt="" /> I am not sure what you did, but this morning the board is running much faster. Thanks Pilgrim.
