Quote There is this unfortunate idea and desire to be "popular" among so many men and to accomplish that they are always coming up with "something NEW" that will elevate their recognition by others and inflame their egos.

I think that's why I don't have a problem with JP. Although I don't agree with him on every nuance I've never sensed much in the way of pride or inflamed ego.

It's the "coming up with something new" that I find most objectionable and potentially dangerous to the average believer. If a book hits the "Christian bestseller list" or it is touted as being something "you just have to read" by the masses, many (most?) run after it. The fact that the modern evangelical says it is "great stuff" should cause the proverbial red flag to fly. But unfortunately, discernment is a rare commodity it seems.

Quote
Ephesians 4:11-14 (ASV) "And he gave some [to be] apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ: till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;"
One of the main factors why this is so prevalent today is due to widespread biblical illiteracy. And of course, the other more fundamental cause is that the majority are unregenerate. [Linked Image]
