OCD is nothing to be ashamed of but it's important to seek help!!! It can become a vicious cycle of mental obsessions and reactionary compulsions......God can bear these burdens and take away our torments when we lay our afflictions at his feet and let go of our control......there are also treatment options if we seek Christian counselors of the traditional reformed persuasion and seek help from a physician
Consider this a public service announcement....
God Bless!

sorry, I know this was kind of a random topic...I just like to mention that because we live in a fallen world and we are sinful creatrues there are all types of afflictions which man must face.....OCD can often be excessively painful, and there have been many cases in which individuals (specifically faithful Christians) have repetitive, untrollable thoughts in which they blaspheme God....I believe God can use afflictions to bring us to true sorrow, humility and obedience ......and God knows when intrusive (sinful/evil) thoughts especially one in which we are raging against God causes us grief, sorrow and misery....He understands, is merciful and will not hold us accountable (speaking specifally about the regenrate) .....that way we don't have to dwell on the offense and fall into a vicious cycle of obsession-compulsion (in which we constantly spend our time trying to repress thougts and/or engage in some type of ritualistic compulsions to compensate) don't know if anyone here is affected by this condition or know somebody who is but I thought this post may be a blessing! http://www.monergismbooks.com/OCD-Freedom-for-the-Obsessive-Compulsive-p-18020.html

I really like Paul's advice in Galatians: Walk in the Spirit and you won't be indulging the old nature. It's a DO and not a DON'T. Most of us can only do one thing at a time anyway. If what we do is toward God (memorizing Scripture is great for OCD, for example), we can't be simultaneously occupied with other things. I've not been diagnosed with OCD, but we all battle with obsession and compulsion on some level. For me it helps to be very deliberately occupied with something holy and good. The mind set on Christ is free! Some degree of OCD is common with my form of autism ( Asbergers syndrome) and simple disciplines like scripture memorization and verbal "put loud" prayer helps me.

Some of the other passages which come to mind are:
Philippians 4:6-9 (ASV) "In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. The things which ye both learned and received and heard and saw in me, these things do: and the God of peace shall be with you."
Colossians 3:1-3 (ASV) "If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth. For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God."

Robin, that's an excellent post, and that is what I do, not as much as I should sometimes, but it is effective and feeds the soul!
