Douay-Rheims Version http://www.drbo.org/chapter/01003.htm

1
Quote
And he said to him: And who hath told thee that thou wast naked, but that thou hast eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat? [12] And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat. [13] And the Lord God said to the woman: Why hast thou done this? And she answered: The serpent deceived me, and I did eat. [14] And the Lord God said to the serpent: Because thou hast done this thing, thou art cursed among all cattle, and beasts of the earth: upon thy breast shalt thou go, and earth shalt thou eat all the days of thy life. [15] I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.
Challoner Notes: [15] She shall crush: Ipsa, the woman; so divers of the fathers read this place, conformably to the Latin: others read it ipsum, viz., the seed. The sense is the same: for it is by her seed, Jesus Christ, that the woman crushes the serpent's head

I imagine ya all knew about this but its new to me.

How much import would you ascribe?

The pronoun in the Hebrew, hu can be translated either as "it" or "he", both of which refer back to the "seed". It does not and cannot be translated as "she". That the "seed" is prophetic and culminates in Christ is undeniable which comparing Scripture with Scripture bears out, e.g., Matt 23:33; Jh 8:44; 1 Jn 3:8. The woman, and especially any notion of Mary is totally excluded from any consideration in this text.

Do you see thus as a way to move Mary closer to ,or at least support the possibility of her diety?

Methinks the Roman State Church first contrived of the idea and then sought out ways to justify it, which in this particular case is to rend the Scriptures to their own destruction. evilgrin
