I admit righteous indignation when I saw Sen. Flake now has a book named as the original: "The Conscience of a Conservative" in 1960, by Senator Barry Goldwater. Flake merely dropped the definite article. In 1961 or 62, I went to hear Senator Barry Goldwater speak and was truly moved and encouraged. When Sen. Goldwater ran for office in 1964, he was my first vote for President. I came from a Democrat, union family on both sides, father and mother. After reading Senator Barry Goldwater's book, I registered as a Republican instead of Democrat. Both my mother and father read the book and became Republicans. This was not because the book changed our ideology and belief system, it was because it WAS already our belief system. I strongly encourage people to at least read the Foreword and Contents page of the original book as we hear so much from Senator Flake. Notice just how far we have fallen since 1960. The original book is online: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015046344738;view=1up;seq=7

Wow! The Foreword reads as though it was written today. Thank you for posting this. Welcome to The Highway!

Yes, the Foreword was timeless and I really enjoyed his section on Education and whether or not the federal government should fund it, i.e., extract money from the states only to return it back to the states less the federal government's "fee". Thus, as is always the case, since the federal government "feeds" the needs of the state and/or people, they take control over the state and/or people. Liberalism tries to build "Walden Two", i.e., a select few controlling the masses and implementing their particular personal ideas, which in nearly every case are contrary to propositional truth and a denial of all that is good.
