to live among the heathens. At this school I go to, everyone is "saved" but you will never see a girl who does not leap at the chance to dress like a hooker, or a guy who will ogle and lust after said girls. It is extremely difficult to preach Christ to these people, because they already "know" him.
"Oh yeah. I'm saved, are you?"
Yes, I'm saved. And if you are, why do you still act like you aren't?
"Come on, dude. God doesn't mind."
Yes, he does. *me whips out a few Bible verses*
"Jesus will forgive whatever I do."

Is there any verse I can use that will kind of strongly refute this thinking? I'm looking, but I don't have much time between classes and homework. Any help would be appreciated. Also, please pray for a vival (not RE-vival, vival. We have to be vived first.) at this school. Thank you.

jf2,

Do Not Love the World

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever." (I John 2:15-17)

The moral admonition not to love the world is also practical advice, for it is already clear that the world is passing away (v. 17). As in John's Gospel, the "world" is the system of rebellion and pride that seeks to displace God and His rule. Those who are not of the world receive the word of the Father from Jesus (John 17:14) and show by their response to it that they are chosen for salvation and eternal life.

1 John 3:18
"My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth."

Wes

1 Corinthians 10:1-14

1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea;
2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 and all ate the same spiritual food;
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.
5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.
6 Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.
7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY."
8 Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
9 Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.
10 Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

1 Corinthians 10:31
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

James 1:14-27
14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.
27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

James 2:14-26
14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
18 But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;
23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God.
24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
jesus_freak2

I take it that you go to a Christian school, is that correct?
If so, although you should try to influence your peers, correct teaching comes from the top. It can not help but influence the students if the teachers and administration are liberal.
I would therefore respectfully take your concerns to the administration, this way you will know where they stand.
Be prepared to respectively defend the position you are taking and if you find that they disagree with you, or are not willing to do anything about it. That you don't let that compromise your own position on it.

I would also say that you should be prepared for answers such as "judge not lest you be also judged.” This of course is just a smoke screen trying to justify their actions.

Tom
Actually, Tom, this is nowhere near a Christian school. Everyone just has the plastic "Jesus" salvation that is so, so popular these days.

And thanks everyone for the verses. Most of my time is consumed with classes, homework, sleeping, and on good days eating, so I have little time to get into the Scriptures very deeply. That should clear up by next semester, so it isn't hopeless.

jesus_freak2

Interesting, if that is true, why even bother quoting Scripture to them?

That being said, since they do call themselves "Christian", I would still take the matter before administration.
I can't tell you what to do after that, but if their response was "liberal" in nature, I would go some place else for my education.

Tom
You know, I saw the funniest thing today. A pair of shorts with "Jesus" on one hip pocket and "saves" on the other. I can't adequately describe them, but they were high of leg and low of waist, as tight as possible, and designed to give everyone a panoramic view of what was fore and aft, if you get my drift.

This case is really interesting. I attend a school like most here in the west where it is a religious soup. All paths lead to heaven and truth is a by-word for ignorance. The motto here at NAU is, "To be educated is to be more human." We have a lot of Christians influence here at NAU. But for the most part most of the para-churches (Campus Crusade for Christ, Inter Varsity, Chi Alpha [shudder]) are caught up in being popular. The Gospel is really preached and if it is only through analogy. I always like Revelation 3:14-22. If worst comes to worst JF preach the Gospel from the roof tops. One of my favorite saints who is now attending DTS was asked to give a speech at his Comm department Grad. He preached the Gospel. I really think that it is surreal to be at your school. Of course the first question I wanted to ask was is it in the South. It seems like you are dealing with a people who have had a Christian culture most of their lives and not an abiding Faith. God bless you read about Daniel and realize that how you live among these lukewarm Christians will testify to the Lord also.
Aaron
