I am preaching through Hebrews 10 at a church I have a monthly appointment. In the section I preached on this last Sunday night, vss 19-25, I covered the topic of baptism and how it is a sign and seal of the new covenant, but it in no way saves. After I finished the sermon a Brother spoke about Christ's baptism, and he asked a rhetorical question of why was Jesus baptized? He said it was not for His sins as He did not have any, but for our sins. I've never heard that before, and I cannot say I agree with it. I agree with Dr. W. Robert Godfrey and that Christ was baptized to identify with His ppl.
So, what say ye, ye blokes? Agree or disagree? I disagree.

Bob Godfrey, imo, has it 100% correct. And that is what I told them in my sermon, that His baptism identified Him with His ppl, and that He was just as much Christ, just as much God, before going into the water as He was after He came out of the water.

Jesus was baptized to "fulfil all righteousness"...
"(15) And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it to be so] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him." {Mat 3:15 KJV}
Not for Him to identify with us, but that we might identify with Him! He does not need to identiy with us, He is God! It had to be done so that He could set an example for us and to make complete His Righteousness!
