Recommended Reading: The Last Days According to Jesus by R.C. Sproul. Lots of historical observations from both sides of the war of Rome against Jerusalem and the events of 70 AD.

I heard Sproul’s book is really good. Coming from a Partial Preterist, Amil position.

Here is a review of RC Sproul’s book.

Quote
R.C. Sproul held that the Book of Revelation was written before the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70, aligning with a partial preterist perspective. While he acknowledged the traditional late-date view (around 95-96 AD during the reign of Domitian), his lectures emphasized the arguments for an earlier date, likely during the reign of Nero in the 60s AD.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Early Date (Pre-70 AD):
Sproul's position, particularly in his Ligonier video lectures, leans towards the idea that Revelation was written before the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, aligning with a partial preterist interpretation. This view suggests that many of the prophecies in Revelation were fulfilled with the events surrounding Jerusalem's fall.
Nero as the Beast:
Sproul considered the possibility that the "Beast" mentioned in Revelation could be Nero, as he was a prominent figure known by that nickname during the relevant period.
Importance of Dating:
Sproul stressed the significance of accurately dating Revelation, as it impacts how one interprets its prophecies and their connection to historical events.
Study Bible's Late Date:
It's worth noting that the notes and introductions in Sproul's Reformation Study Bible, while likely reflecting a consensus view among scholars, don't fully align with his asserted early-date preference. This is likely due to the committee of scholars involved in the Bible's production.
